Last Sunday we ran the annual couples tournament. The event is in memory of Viv Pennell. We had a stroke of luck with the weather…I guess Viv must of been smiling down on us.
We had 16 mixed doubles couples, 11 genuine couples. Fortunately no marriage counselor was needed for the day! However there were a few funny looks between couples as things got competitive.
The event was ran as an American tournament, 4 rounds of matches, picked as fairly as possible, 20 minutes a match, with each couple trying to accumulate as many games as possible within the 4 rounds. Claudia & Robin came 3rd, the young sweethearts Luka and May 2nd behind the winners, Andy and Kate Benc. The day couldn’t have gone any better, the weather was beautiful, all courts used, with the fun matches on show.
A big thanks go to Geoff, Dave and everyone who played their part in making the day special.
Viv we all miss you and hope we did you proud. I know you loved the event, particularly the day you won it and jumped up and down on the table, I’ll never forget your big smile that day!
